It isn’t easy to quantify what the final will be. What will the story be? What will be the answers to the questions we haven’t yet experienced enough to even know to ask? What will be the stories shared by fellow adventurists?
IT ALL REMAINS UNKNOWN UNTIL WE SET OUT AND DISCOVER IT.
IT REMAINS… UNCERTAIN.
For this film, the idea is simple, but the execution is complicated. Embark on a 10-day Baja XL expedition with nothing but our rig, cameras, and a deep curiosity about the human spirit. No script, no corporate sponsors—just a shared desire to capture the raw essence of the destination which itself is the journey.
The Baja Peninsula, with its rugged deserts, rocky terrain, and coastal cliffs, will be our soundstage as we figure out our final – a documentary that aims to not just showcase the challenge of overlanding, but to explore what drives people to chase the horizon.
While the route is somewhat predetermined, and a symbolism of itinerary exists—the outcome is unclear. Just daunting landscapes, occasional trails, and the endless pull of adventure as us and the other teams choose our line through the unforgiving terrain. With every bump, boulder, hill, and beach we hope to answer a question that has lingered in the minds of explorers for centuries:
Our goal is to not only capture the unforgiving, unruined landscape, but to also capture the intimate shared moments that arise between fellow adventurists endlessly chasing the sun.
We describe the film as a concept, simply because any questions we would think to ask would be wrong. The truth is that the right questions can only be found in the journey itself.
There will be times when the trail grows treacherous, the sun beats down relentlessly, and exhaustion begins to settle in—but there will also be a shared sense of exhilaration, of understanding that the only way forward is to keep moving.
The film will ultimately be a reflection of those moments, capturing the joy and struggle of pursuing something bigger than oneself.
As the journey unfolds we will let the story find its heart… somewhere between the poetic and stunning landscapes and the grueling technical challenges of off-roading…
Somewhere in the campfire conversations, the quiet reflections, and the small moments of connection that emerge in the midst of uncertainty.
There is no pre-determined grand narrative, no structure—but in the chaos and beauty of the Baja, we know, regardless of the outcome that we will discover something timeless: the spirit of adventure, the unspoken bond between explorers, and the endless pursuit of the horizon.
The challenge lies not just in completing the expedition, but also in telling that unknown story by capturing, experiencing, and sharing the organic purity of that endeavor.
Deeply immersed in the present, leaning on skills and instincts we set out to find the physical and philosophical path.
Success will be measured in our immersion in the experience, not our completion, or a tally of miles conquered. Sharing that success and experience will require filming without compromising the sanctity of the heart—the highs and the lows, the unfiltered emotion that arises only when you push deeper into the wild.
What started as a simple idea to join the rally evolved into something far more personal.
The idea of the rally itself is to take the Baja 1000 and make it… more. Make it XL.
The idea of the film is much the same. Take the genre of adventure filming and make it XL. Make it an exploration of the human spirit through an unfiltered and candid reflection on what it means to live in pursuit of something greater.
To chase adventure without knowing if we will finish.
To dive into uncertainty without knowing exactly what we may discover about ourselves and our fellow travelers.
The film will be a story written in dust and sand and grit to reveal the quiet discovery of what lies within that truly drives us to seek out adventure.
